iTunes Collection Tool (ICT) for MacOS

Current version

  • iCT-M (for Music) 2.321 released Nov 20th, 2024
  • iCT-i (for iTunes) 2.27 released 24th November 2023 iCT for iTunes will not receive future updates. My production computer's macOS version is too high to run iTunes reliably.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION for iTunes users:
Due to the necessity of updating my production computer from Mojave to Monterey, I regret to inform you that the iTunes version of iCT, known as iCT-i, will no longer receive updates.

Mojave was the last macOS version compatible with iTunes, and all subsequent versions use the replacement, Music.app.
Unfortunately, I can't continue developing and testing iCT-i on the newer macOS versions.
On a positive note, the Music version iCT-m will continue to receive regular updates.

Here is a rundown of what iCT offers:

For duplicate tracks:

  • Find duplicate tracks in an iTunes/Music collection using audio fingerprinting. This makes duplicates independent from tags and even audio file type.
  • Setting a preferred audio type and quality for the "master track" (e.g. MP3 320Kbs)
  • Automatically select the track of the preferred setting and/or the highest quality as "master track" from a duplicate track set
  • Supplement metadata (star ratings/artwork/playcount etc) in the master track with data from the duplicates.
  • Assign the master track to all the playlists the duplicate tracks are part off and then remove the duplicates from the collection. Or assign them to a dedicated playlist for manual removal.
  • If the file-path of the master track is different from the file-path of the track that is part of the most playlists, then the master track will get the file-path of that track. So any cues/loops etc are preserved in most software and relocation of tracks is not required.
  • remove all "dead tracks" from the iTunes collection (tracks that are not found)
  • Collect all orphaned tracks (tracks that don't belong to any playlist) to a dedicated playlist for easy assignment to playlists or removal.

Adding new tracks to an iTunes or Music collection:

  • Batch process newly downloaded tracks to see if they are already part of the iTunes collection or a new addition. Including all the previous steps for duplicate tracks.
  • If a track is a new addition to the collection then move it to a designated storage location and add it to a designated playlist.

Keyboard shortcuts available in iTunes/Music:

  • quickly skip through tracks in a playlist
  • needle drop in 1/5th steps back and forth a track
  • set the desired star rating and select the next track that has no star rating set
  • find all duplicates of a selected track based on artist/title information and collect those tracks to a dedicated playlist
  • Fix artist or title tags if either is tagged 'artist - title' and the other is empty
  • Mouse automation to set a playlist to song view (requires user to edit the script)
  • select the master track of any set of tracks that are manually deemed to be duplicates and process these according to the iCT settings
  • return to the playlist you were working one
  • reload the tags of the selected track(s), both iTunes and Music don't have a reload tags function
  • Deep delete track, delete the selected track(s) from iTunes/Music and move the associated audio files to the pre-trash folder.
  • Remove all "grey star ratings" in a collection
  • Copy the Artist & Title of the selected track to the clipboard (kind of like command & c)
  • Set the tags from a given track, including artwork, from Discogs.com and transfer it to the selected track in iTunes.
  • Find tracks with troubled audio files (=missing audio file, linked track is not an audio file or linked audio file is inside the Pre-Bin folder) and assign a new audio file to those tracks.

IMPORTANT:

  • macOS only (no refund to Windows users who accidentally buy this app!)
  • fully compatible with macOS from version 10.13 (High Sierra) upto macOS 15 (Sonoma) including M1/M2 macs
  • the App requires an open internet connection during startup
  • iCT is not fast. Depending on your computer speed and storage devices some functions like the initial scan can take a day or longer to perform.
  • iCT is not perfect. It will find all tracks with 100% identical audio and track length. If there are minor discrepencies between audio information or track length then those tracks will not be marked as duplicates.

iCT comes bundled with the much acclaimed app Tracks To iTunes (TTi). Drag a folder containing audio files on the icon and TTi will create the complete storage structure in iTunes as playlistfolders and playlists.
